Wax Carving for Jewellery: Rings & Pendants

Saturday
25 October
10 am to 4 pm

In a relaxed, hands-on workshop, students learn to carve wax to be cast into jewellery- a technique that has been used for millennia to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Receive inspiration and guidance through the design process. Carve and shape wax using simple tools. Focus on texture, form, and creative expression. By the end of the workshop, have a wax piece ready to be cast in silver. Jewellery pieces will be sent off to be cast in silver. The workshop fee does not include the cost of silver. Silver costs will vary depending on the weight of the final piece, but typically cost between $30 and $80. Cast, cleaned, and finished jewellery pieces will be returned to students a few weeks after the workshop.

This course is for anyone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to try something creative and different. Jewellery experience is not necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to have a go. This technique is great for people who like detail-oriented crafts like pottery, knitting, or sculpture, but will be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in texture and design.
